Girls basketball: Dawson falls in Battle of States finals

HIAWASSEE -- Dawson County fell behind early and could not complete the comeback in a 70-65 loss to Hayesville, N.C. in the championship game of The Battle of the States Tournament Saturday night.

Hayesville jumped out to a 24-14 lead after the first quarter. Dawson County trailed 36-26 at halftime and chipped away in the second half.

The Lady Tigers used a 15-12 third quarter to pull within 48-41 but could not get closer until the final score.

Sheyenne Seabolt led Dawson County (11-3) with 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for a double-double. Karlie Bearden scored added 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and 7 rebounds and Ashley Parker scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds. Sheyenne Seabolt and Karlie Bearden were both selected on the All Tournament team.

Dawson County will be off until getting back into Region 7-AAA action East Hall next Friday.
