Two arrests made in GHS threat case

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville police have arrested two juveniles in connection with threats found written on the wall of a boy's bathroom at Gainesville High School Tuesday afternoon.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said one juvenile has been charged with Terroristic Threats and Acts, Interference with Government Property, and Disruption of a Public School. The second juvenile was charged with Making False Statements during the course of the investigation.

Holbrook said even though authorities believe the threat was fictitious, security will remain heightened for the remainder of the week at the high school.

Late Wednesday, School Superintendent Dr. Merriane Dyer said the school day went smoothly at Gainesville High School, despite the threat.

Dyer said in the email that students were very cooperative and seemed to appreciate the extra caution. As we reported earlier, there was a 10% increase in absent students today.

Dyer also said that the State Department of Education has allowed the school to postpone the end of the year tests. Those tests were supposed to take place tomorrow and Friday, but they have been pushed to Monday and Tuesday of next week.
