SUWANEE - Gwinnett County Police Monday afternoon released the names of those involved in a fatal traffic accident in the Suwanee area Saturday morning.
Police said Hafiz M. Ilyas, 40, of Marietta died in the crash on the southbound side of Interstate 85 near the Old Peachtree Road overpass in the Suwanee area.
Police believe a tractor-trailer driver made an improper lane change, cutting off Ilyas' car. Authorities believe the maneuver forced Ilyas' car onto the shoulder. It ultimately ended up under the trailer and on fire. Ilyas was trapped in the wreckage and died on the scene, according to police.
The rig driver, 35 year old Raymond L. Hatt Junior of Manton, is charged with unsafe lane change, failure to signal lane change, and homicide by vehicle second degree.
