Utility cable company plans west Ga. expansion

By The Associated Press
VILLA RICA (AP) - A cable and wire manufacturing company is planning to build a new plant in western Georgia.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday that Carrollton-based Southwire is planning to create 375 new jobs in Villa Rica and spend $95 million in the expansion effort.

The company was founded in 1950 and produces electric utility wires and cables.

Villa Rica Mayor J. Allen Collins says Southwire has been a valuable resource to the city and he's glad the company is choosing to expand there.

Villa Rica is about 30 miles west of downtown Atlanta.
