Volleyball: Lakeview clinches state tournament berth

LILBURN -- The Lakeview Academy volleyball team secured a berth in the state playoffs on Saturday in Lilburn, defeating Prince Avenue (25-10, 28-18) and George Walton (25-20, 25-15) before falling to Athens Academy in an area tournament semifinal match (22-25, 26-24, 25-18).

The Lady Lions finished as the No. 3 seed.

Senior Shelby Ross led the Lady Lions with 30 kills, 13 digs, 3 aces and 3 blocks. Katie White added 16 kills, 32 digs and 4 aces. Peaches Shipley had 9 kills, 6 aces, and a block. Delaney Jarrett had 6 kills, 24 assists, 2 aces and Bailey Towles had 28 assists and 4 aces.

Four Lakeview players received All Area accolades: Shelby Ross, first team; Katie White, second team; Samantha Versteeg, second team; Bailey Towles, honorable mention.

The Lady Lions will play in the first round of the state playoffs on Thursday.
