Elections 2013: Fred Richards

By Ken Stanford
NAME: Fred Richards

OCCUPATION: Retired real estate broker and appraiser

Candidate for Post 3 on the Flowery Branch City Council

1. Why are you running for this office?

I am running because I feel it is a honor and privilege to represent the citizens of Flowery Branch. In the last 18 months we have accomplished much, and it is important to keep experienced people in office, and not start over or change direction.

2. Is this first time you have run for political office? (If "no," please explain.)

No this is not the first time. I was elected as a councilman about 18 months ago.

3. What qualifications for the office do you bring to the campaign?

I have countless hours invested in the downtown redevelopment project. I have taken undergraduate courses in city planning and urban development, and graduated from the Georgia Academy of Economic Development. Now as we reach the conclusion of the study phase and approach the start of the implementation phase it makes sense to reelect someone with hands on experience rather than someone with no experience.

4. What do you see as the biggest concern/issue facing the city of Flowery Branch? And, please explain your answer.

It is the implementation of the downtown redevelopment plan and the storm water infrastructure repairs that need to be done due to the May 19th storm.

5. Are there any specific changes you would like to undertake if you are elected? And, please explain your answer.

I would like to change Flowery Branch from just a dot on the map to a destination point where people want to live, work, play and shop. If this is accomplished then everyone will benefit.
