Noon hour fire damages Gainesville house

By Derreck Booth Anchor/reporter
GAINESVILLE - Gainesville firefighters battled a house fire shortly before 1:00 p.m. Thursday.

According to Gainesville Fire Chief Jerome Yarbrough, it happened in the 400 block of Piedmont Avenue.

The single-family home is between Piedmont Place and Brookhaven Court. The blaze broke out in the basement according to Yarbrough.

"The fire was contained to one room with heat and smoke damage throughout the home," Yarbrough said.

"There were no injuries on this fire. The fire right now is under investigation," Yarbrough added.

He said one person was home at the time of the blaze.
