Hwy. 316 wreck turns fatal

By Derreck Booth Anchor/reporter
LAWRENCEVILLE - A 68 year old Dacula man lost his life in a traffic accident that had rescuers working for hours in Gwinnett County Thursday morning.

It happened during morning rush-hour on Georgia 316 at Hurricane Trail.

Gwinnett County Police believe a tractor trailer turned in front of the victim car.

"The driver of that vehicle couldn't stop and crashed into the side of the trailer and became wedged underneath the trailer," Gwinnett Police Corporal Edwin Ritter said.

"It took well over an hour, maybe almost two hours for fire and EMS to extricate him from the vehicle," Cpl. Ritter added.

He identified the victim as Anvir Karim. He died at the hospital.

The truck driver, 34 year old Latora Barrett of Columbia, South Carolina, was not hurt, according to police.

They said charges are pending.
