Woman arrested for carrying gun into Gwinnett County Courthouse

By The Associated Press
LAWRENCEVILLE - A woman was arrested for carrying a loaded handgun into Gwinnett County Courthouse.

The sheriff's office said Lesley Fanning was arrested Wednesday when security officers using a scanner spotted the gun. Authorities said Fanning did not have a permit to carry the weapon.

She was charged with bringing a weapon into a courthouse and having prescription narcotics not in their original container.

Fanning is the daughter-in-law of former county commissioner Shirley Lasseter. Lasseter and her son, John Fanning, have pleaded guilty to federal corruption charges.

Fanning has been released on bond. It was not immediately clear whether she had an attorney.
