Apartment fire in Lawrenceville displaces over a dozen residents

By Staff
LAWRENCEVILLE - An early Sunday morning apartment fire in Lawrenceville displaces over a dozen residents.

Gwinnett County Police Information Officer Lt. Colin Rhoden says the blaze was reported around 7 a.m. by a 911 caller saying heavy smoke was engulfing many of the units in the 3100 block of Sweetwater Road.

Rhoden says crews went door to door successfully evacuating residents, but one person was transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. In all, fourteen units were evacuated and eight of those sustained fire damage.

A total of twelve adults and two children were displaced and will be assisted by the Red Cross.

Fire Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
