GAINESVILLE - Voter turnout in Hall County far surpassed estimates, according to numbers released Tuesday night by the county elections office.

A total of 19,659 voters turned out at the polls, representing 24.53% of the electorate. Based on advance voting numbers, Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee had predicted a 16% turnout in advance of the Tuesday runoff.

Four years ago, the turnout for the primary runoff was just 8.7% in Hall County.

The Secretary of State will release votes totals from across the state later in the day Wednesday.
