BUFORD -- Bria Bush just missed out on a no-hit bid on Monday, as the Buford pitcher helped the Lady Wolves shut down Jefferson 8-0 in six innings in Buford.
Jefferson's Emily Dufty opened the game with a single off Bush, but it was the last hit the Lady Dragons would get off the sophomore, who moved to 4-0 on the season, striking out four batters in the process while lowering her earned run average to 0.58.
Meanwhile, Buford's bats came alive late in their home debut of 2012 season, exploding for six runs in the bottom of the sixth ending.
Freshman Drew Puckett helped pace top-ranked Buford (7-0) at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBIs and one run scored. Junior Niki Cook also finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI, while freshman Baylee Sexton was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Buford will take on North Forsyth at 10 a.m. Saturday at North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega.
Jefferson, meanwhile, will look to bounce back against Greene County on Tuesday in Jefferson.
