Ga. 400 work begins next week in our area

CUMMING - Next Monday, a Georgia Department of Transportation contractor plans to start resurfacing a busy stretch of Georgia 400 in our area.

The work is expected to make the lanes a smoother ride in the general area of the North Georgia Premium Outlets.

"We'll be removing about one inch of asphalt on State Route 400, all four lanes, beginning at State Route 306 in Forsyth County and continuing north up to State Route 53 in Dawson County," DOT spokeswoman Teri Pope said.

Pope said crews will start at 53 and work south, one lane at a time.

"The completion date for that project is November 30, 2012, but the contractor hopes to get done much sooner than that," Pope said.

Southbound lane closures are planned from 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. The northbound work is slated for 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Pope said the work will occur Sundays through Thursdays.

Marietta contractor C.W. Matthews has the $3.2 million contract.
