GAINESVILLE - State Representative Doug Collins (R-Gainesville), who is running for a seat in Congress this year, has received a 100% rating from the American Conservative Union (ACU) for his work in the Georgia General Assembly. At a ceremony in Atlanta, Collins was acknowledged by ACU Chairman, Al Cardenas, with the group's Defender of Freedom award.

"Restoring the core values of the Constitution on which our country was founded has always been my chief concern," said Collins. "Smaller government, less taxation and reduced spending have been an integral part of every decision I have ever made as a citizen legislator. That won't change when I'm in Washington.

"I thank not only ACU for this honor, but I also want to express my utmost gratitude to my constituents living in House District 27 for the opportunity to serve their interests in Atlanta. I hope they are proud of the conservative change we have accomplished during the past six years.

"In three weeks, I look forward to becoming the Republican nominee in the 9th District of Georgia Congressional race, and I cannot wait to get to Washington to institute the same consistent conservative principles on a federal level.

ACU Chairman, Al Cardenas, added:

"On behalf of the American Conservative Union, I am pleased to present our 2012 State Legislative Ratings for members of the Georgia General Assembly," said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas. "For 40 years ACU has set the gold standard for Congressional ratings, and we are now able to offer that same level of unbiased and transparent information to the voters of the Peach State so they can hold their elected officials accountable at the state level as well."
