Oliver, Eden top money-raisers in Hall Co. as primaries draw near

GAINESVILLE - With three weeks remaining until election day, the latest campaign finance disclosure reports for the candidates running for Hall County offices July 31 show county commission chairman Tom Oliver and tax commissioner hopeful Darla Eden ahead in money raised for the period ending June 30.

The deadline for the reports, filed with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission (GGTCFC), was midnight Monday.

Oliver reported raising $37,600 during the period, while Eden reported taking in $34,650.25. Eden reported cash on hand as of June 30 of $9,972.07. Oliver's balance on hand was $24,946.70.

Of the other candidates in the tax commissioner's race, Kent Henderson reported total contributions of $16,181.93 with $7,433,61 cash on hand. (AccessNorthGA.com erroneously reported earlier that Henderson's report was not on file. The candidate's report was filed on July 9, according to the GGTCFC website.)

Also in the tax commissioner's race, Brad Dunagan reported contributions of $3,227 and cash on hand of $191.16 and Charles Lewis listed contributions of $10,694 during the period and a balance on hand of $2,504.68.


Of the two other candidates for county commission chairman, Dick Mecum reported contributions of $23,005 for the period ending June 30 with a balance of $3,643.86. The third candidate in the race, Steve Gailey, had not filed a report as of 6:45 Tuesday morning, according to the GGTCFC website.

In the race for Hall County Sheriff, Jeff Strickland continues to lead the way in donations, reporting that he took in $15,863 during the latest reporting period. Close behind was Gerald Couch with $12,119.80. Jon Strickland reported contributions totaling $8,250 for the reporting period ending June 30. John Sisk reported contributions of $7,960 and Chuck Hewett $800.
