GSC SIFE Team competes at national championship

GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville State College(GSC) Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team earned the opportunity to compete based on their Regional Championship at the SIFE Regional Competition held April 2 in Atlanta.

GSC SIFE is one of nearly 600 programs in the United States. Participating students use business concepts to develop community outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need.

During the academic year, GSC SIFE organized 10 projects in the Gainesville and Watkinsville communities and has received grants from Wal-mart, Sam's, the Lowe's Community Foundation, the National Chamber of Commerce Foundation, TIAA-CREF, and Campbell's.

During the National Championships, GSC SIFE was recognized as a National Finalist in the TIAA CREF Financially Empowering Gen Y Project Partnership for their work in teaching college students credit and debt management. They were also recognized with a Silver Spoon Award by Campbell's as one of the top schools in the Let's Can Hunger Challenge.

GSC SIFE has been invited to attend the SIFE World Cup event as an observing team. This year the World Cup will be held in Washington, D.C. September 30-October 2. This is the fourth time GSC has been invited to the World Cup. They have attended previous World Cup competitions held in New York, Germany, and California.
