HSJC seeks county land for animal shelter

By Staff
JEFFERSON - The Humane Society of Jackson County goes before the county commission Monday night with a proposal for an animal shelter for Jackson County.

The humane society is seeking a long-term property lease with the county to allow it to build and operate an animal shelter on property owned by the county. According to the group's website, Jackson County is "one of the only counties in our region" that does not have an animal shelter and "an animal shelter is a community resource our county desperately needs."

The proposed agreement would also authorize negotiations for the use of the shelter "once it is completed and in operation."

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners meeting Monday night begins at 6:00 in the Jury Assembly Room in the Jackson County Courthouse in Jefferson.
