50 years of presidential leadership at Lanier Tech

OAKWOOD - Five decades of continuous Presidential Leadership of Lanier Technical College gathered for the first time at the College's Oakwood Campus.

Current President Russell Vandiver, Lanier Tech President since 2010 hosted former Presidents Dr. Ken Breeden 1975-1984, Dr. Joe Hill 1984-2001, and Dr. Mike Moye 2002-2010. They gathered for a presidential recognition and conversation on the expanding academic opportunities, the economic growth potentials that are emerging for Lanier Tech and the communities that the College serves, and the College's historical focus on the core mission of workforce development.

"Lanier Tech started with one campus and two buildings in Oakwood, and we've grown to five campuses, thirteen buildings, including a new state of the art conference center," Vandiver said. "Soon, we'll have two more new buildings: one at our Dawson Campus and one at our Winder-Barrow Campus. We started with several hundred students, and last year we served over 26,400 students. Through five decades of presidential leadership, through the growth in student enrollment, to the expansion of the Campuses, to the Quarter-to-Semester conversion, to SACS-COC accreditation, everything that we have done has stayed focused on our core mission of workforce development."

The recently strengthened academic partnership between the Technical College System of Georgia and the University System of Georgia provides students with more options to pursue higher education through improved transferability of 27 selected courses.

"This strong partnership further enhances the higher education goals for our students. As our students, or other students from other TCSG institutions advance in their careers, they now have even more options to transfer successfully completed college courses to University System institutions, or to other higher education providers, in pursuit of their new careers goals," Vandiver added. "The strengthened TCSG and USG partnership is great news for Georgians. It is a pleasure to brief Lanier Tech's former Presidents on how the energized TCSG-USG partnership and our accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
