Lightning sparks two house fires in Gwinnett Co.

By B.J. Williams
UNDATED - Lighting sparked two house fires in Gwinnett County last night, one in Duluth and the other in Dacula.

Gwinnett Fire Captain Tommy Rutledge said units were called to the first fire in the 1900 block of Point River Drive in Duluth at 9:59 p.m. The house was destroyed, according to Rutledge.

Late Wednesday morning, Rutledge confirmed that the couple who lived at the home were on vacation. He said investigators spoke with a daughter who confirmed their location.

The second fire occurred around 10:05 p.m. on Floral Ridge Drive in Dacula, according to Rutledge, as storms continued to roll through Gwinnett County. In that instance, fire was contained to the roof and attic of the home. Rutledge said occupants of the home were outside and safe when crews arrived at the scene.
