LULA - Typically, Jaemor Farms in East Hall County is known for its fall celebrations, but Sunday the family started a new spring tradition...a community-wide Easter egg hunt.
Stephen Jackson with Jaemor said the family had tossed the idea around for awhile.
"Since Garrison's closed down a few years ago, we knew that we wanted to open up an event like this to the community and everything just kind of fell into place this year, so we started up," said Jackson.
The Garrison family of Homer hosted what became known as the World's Largest Easter Egg Hunt for a number of years. The event grew to the point where it became too large for the family to handle and the last hunt, the 50th, was held in 2009.
While the first-ever Jaemor egg hunt was nothing close to the magnitude of the Garrison hunt, Jackson estimated about 1,500 people attended the inaugural hunt. He said about 500 vehicles, including church vans, parked at the property on Ga. Hwy. 365.
He said the family tossed out 12,000 eggs, using the area usually reserved for the corn maze; the maze has not yet been planted.
In addition to the egg hunt, children were able to visit a petting zoo and have photos taken with the Easter bunny.
Jackson said he feels certain the family will host another hunt next Easter.
