ATLANTA (AP) Georgia House lawmakers will debate whether to legalize hunting with silenced firearms in Georgia.
The House Game, Fish and Parks Committee is scheduled to debate a Senate bill Tuesday that would allow hunters to shoot with silencers, which suppress the noise coming from a gun when it's fired.
Sen. John Bulloch, the bill's sponsor, has said allowing hunters to use silencers would keep them from disturbing their neighbors. He said it would not create an unfair advantage for hunters. The National Rifle Association supports the bill.
It is legal to possess silencers in most states, but they require a special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
