Dawson Co. investigates paving scam

By Staff
DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County authorities are warning residents to be on the lookout for suspicious persons in the county who are running a paving scam.

The warning has been posted on the Sheriff's Department Facebook page and says that the suspects approach their victims and tell them they've been doing some paving for the state and have extra asphalt that they need to get rid of.

Lt. Ray Goodie said this type of scam seems to surface about this time every year and the latest victim was an elderly man who was forced to write a check after the suspects paved his driveway.

"Through intimidation, they had the elderly man fill out a $9,800 check and hand it over to them," said Goodie.

The normal targets for these subjects are elderly people, according to investigators.

Authorities said the the quality of the material the suspects use is substandard and typically washes away after a good rain.

Lt. Goodie said the subjects were last seen driving a white king-cab Ford truck.
