GAINESVILLE - Best selling Christian author Bruce Wilkinson spoke to a crowd of more than 800 people in Gainesville Tuesday night as part of his 2012 emphasis on stopping abortion in America.
Wilkinson was the guest speaker for Gainesville Care Center's 25th anniversary banquet at First Baptist Church on Green Street. Gainesville Care Center is a pregnancy center that offers counseling to women and men who find themselves in crisis situations.
Wilkinson, the author of the bestselling "Prayer of Jabez" and a number of other works, has been traveling across the country as part of a ministry effort called The Great Turnaround. Wilkinson, noting that 53 million abortions have occurred in the United States since 1973, said his worldwide ministry is committed to partnerships with pregnancy crisis centers, such as Gainesville Care Center, to stop abortions nationwide.
The annual banquet also featured clients and their children served by Gainesville Care Center since 1987.
Gainesville Care Center officials said they raised at least $352,000 as a result of the event, which was a record fundraising amount.
