Dog that bit boy put down

By Staff
HOMER - The Banks County Sheriff confirmed Wednesday that the dog that injured a Homer boy has been put down. Sheriff Charles Chapman said the owner made the decision, and the dog was euthanized Tuesday.

The boy, 5, was recuperating after being attacked by a neighbor's dog Friday afternoon.

Cannon Brown apparently was on a bike ride with his mother when he stopped to pet the dog. Krystal Lee Brown told Fox 5 News that the dog attacked her son, biting him on the arm and the face, breaking his nose.

She also told the television station she is upset because the dog had been returned to its owners.

Banks County Sheriff Charles Chapman said the county doesn't have a leash law or an animal control officer, so his options are limited when it comes to filing charges against the dog's owners.

"The health department told the deputies to instruct the owners of the dog to put the dog up and keep it up for ten days," Chapman earlier told Fox 5.
