GAINESVILLE - The Governor of Georgia and the founder of INK Children's Museum were tapped Monday night as the Gainesville Rotary Club's Man And Woman of the Year.

Governor Nathan Deal was honored as Man of the Year not just for his accomplishments in political office, but also for his service to the Hall County community as a member of the Gainesville Rotary Club and First Baptist Church of Gainesville, among other things.

In a letter of nomination to the Rotary Club, the Governor was lauded for "his caring attitude...his support for his family and his church...his working on issues to better all of our lives."

Sheri Hooper was selected as Woman of the Year. The founder and executive director of Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK) Museum was described in a nominating letter as "the embodiment of selfless persnal charitable commitment to a community."

Hooper birthed the idea for INK in the basement of her home, and the facility now occupies over 25,000 square-feet of space in the city's Communiversity Center. Hooper takes no salary for her work, which her supporters says is just another way she continues to serve her community.

The Rotary Club has honored community leaders with its Man and Woman of the Year Awards since 1939.

The annual event was held at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville.
