Remainder of Banks County house destroyed by fire

MAYSVILLE - Most of the burned-out shell of a Banks County home was destroyed by fire early Friday.

Banks County Fire Chief Brian Eubanks said the majority of house that remained after Tuesday night's fire burned down around 5 a.m. Friday.

"Pretty much all that was left there was the front of the house and three dormers, and all that is gone now," Eubanks said Friday.

Eubanks said firefighters checked the home again late Thursday afternoon, as they had done Wednesday afternoon.

There have been several rekindles of the fire since the original call to the structure.

Eubanks said Carson Segars Road was closed near its intersection with Gowder Road again around 5 a.m. so water could be supplied from a nearby hydrant rather than shuttled.

Banks County Fire Department and Lee Arrendale State Prison Fire Team from Alto responded to Friday's call at the home.

"The cause [of Friday's fire] is under investigation, and the cause of the original fire is under investigation," Eubanks said.
