Police investigate auto break-ins at apt. complex

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - Seven residents of Towne Creek Apartments on Washington Street woke up earlier this week to an unwelcome sight. Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said all seven were victims of entering auto crimes that happened on Tuesday.

He said all of the incidents had one thing in common, the vehicles were unsecured.

"They had either left the windows down, left the doors unsecured and had items of value within plain view," said Holbrook.

He said all of the items that were stolen were small items that could be easily sold or pawned.

"Everything from stereo equipment to iPods, iPod speakers, bookbags, sunglasses, phones...," said Holbrook.

Holbrook said while none of the losses was large, the crimes should serve as a reminder to vehicle owners to keep their vehicles locked at all times and to make sure valuables are kept out of sight.
