CLEVELAND - A Union County Sheriff's Office Deputy was listed in stable condition at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Thursday afternoon, following a one-vehicle traffic accident in White County Thursday morning.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, Gerald Ippolito, 72, of Blairsville, was headed north on Highway 75 and hit a mile marker sign on the east shoulder of the highway. The vehicle went down an embankment and hit a tree with the right front fender. It happened around 8:30 a.m.
According to the state patrol, a passenger was also taken to the medical center in Gainesville with complaints of injuries. The patrol did not immediatly release that name.
The deputy was reportedly transporting a prisoner at the time of the accident.
