Boys basketball: Johnson rally falls short against Monroe

MONROE -- The Johnson boys rallied froma 14-point halftime deficit to take a fourth quarter lead but couldn't hold it as Monroe Area came back to defeat the Knights 67-63 Tuesday night in Region 8B-AAA action.

The Hurricanes' Ken Jackson proved to be the difference pouring in 40 points to lead Monroe Area.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 34-20 halftime lead but JOhnson answered in the third quarter with a 25-15 run to cut it to four points. The Knights then took a 58-57 with 1:30 left.

jackson, however, hit a 3-pointer to reclaim the lead for Monroe Area and then sealed the game for Monroe at the free throw line.

Johnson was led by Montrell McKenzie with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks in another huge effort. Matt Hollis scored 12 points and AJ Benefield 11 for the Knights.

Monroe was led by Ken Jackson with 40 points.

Johnson is at Gainesville on Friday night at 8:30.
