Boys basketball: Knights still winless in 8B-AAA

OAKWOOD -- The Johnson boys basketball team is still looking for its first Region 8B-AAA win after falling to Class AAA No.5 Walnut Grove 72-56 Friday night.

Walnut Grove jumped out to an 18-12 lead at the end of the first quarter and used a 25-15 second quarter to take control.

Johnson cut into the lead at times in the third quarter but still trailed 56-41 heading into the fourth quarter. The Knights were able to cut the Walnut Grove lead to nine points on several occassions but could get any closer.

Johnson was just 2-of-25 from 3-point range in the game, including going 0-for-17 in the second half.

Matt Hollis paced Johnson (7-10, 0-5 in subregion) with 29 points. Montrell McKenzie posted a new school record with 32 rebounds to go with 13 points for the Knights.

Walnut Grove (15-2, 6-0) was led by Chris Peters with 16 points. Brian Pearson added 14 and Tyrone Kilgore 13 for the Warriors.
