DEMOREST - One person was hurt when the Chevrolet Blazer he was driving was struck by a concrete-hauling truck on Highway 365 at Double Bridge Road in Demorest late Tuesday morning.
According to Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee, the driver of the SUV was attempting to cross Highway 365 from the Demorest side of Double Bridge Road. That maneuver is prohibited by pavement markings and concrete islands at the intersection.
As the vehicle crossed the northbound lanes of Highway 365 toward Double Bridge Connector, it was struck by the northbound commercial truck, Coffee said.
The SUV overturned several times, coming to rest on its wheels off the roadway. The driver, who was injured, initially was trapped in the wreckage. He was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center for treatment.
Charges are pending, Coffee said.
