20/20 updates Channing Moss story

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Four years ago today an Army Private from Gainesville who gained worldwide attention when he was wounded in Afghanistan was honored as part of the Memorial Day ceremony at Memorial Park Cemetery.

PFC Channing Moss was given the Hall County Sheriff Office Medal of Valor by Sheriff Steve Cronic, the first person outside of the department to receive the award.

The attention directed at Moss after he was wounded more than five years ago centered around a rocket-propelled grenade that lodged in his abdomen and the delicate operation that followed to removed it.

Not long after that, ABC's 20/20 did a feature on the events surrounding Moss and the men and women who saved his life at extreme risk of their own; had the shell exploded as they attempted to remove it, everyone within 30 feet of him would die.

Moss first told his story to AccessNorth Ga.com. (See earlier story.)
