Chairman proud of economic development efforts

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - As his tenure comes to a close at the helm of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Darryl Snyder Thursday reflected on his chairmanship. While he noted there were a number of accomplishments by members of his team, he said he was especially proud of the effort of the economic development team.

"I would definitely say economic development has been a huge, huge part of the past year both on the retail side and the industrial side in creating new jobs," said Snyder.

Snyder, a Georgia Power Company executive, said the crowd at the annual picnic at the Georgia Power Pavilion on Riverside Drive was indicative of the growth the chamber has seen over the past year, even when other chamber groups around the state might be struggling for membership.

"You know, if we can get people involved and they're making a difference in the community, I think they feel valuable, and I think that's been a big part of it [chamber membership growth]."

Snyder wraps up his tenure as board chairman next month.
