Identities released in Cleveland shooting

CLEVELAND - Officials have released the names of those involved in a shooting on Cagle Street in Cleveland just after midnight Thursday.

Police Chief John Foster said the two people that were father and son,Tim and Scott Welchel. Both were residents of the house where the shooting occurred. According to Foster, an argument began in the yard of the house. When they went inside the home, that's when shots were fired.

Foster said one of the victims remains in serious condition and the other is in critical condition at Grady Hospital in Atlanta where they were life-flighted just after midnight. Foster said he was able to speak to one of the victims at the hospital Thursday morning and obtain information that will assist in the investigation.

A suspect, identified as Jack Michael McDonald, 69, of Cleveland, is in custody charged with aggravated assault at this time. Earlier reports indicated that two people were arrested in connection with the shooting, but Chief Foster said that only one person was involved.

According to Foster two guns were involved. One was recovered earlier in the day, but officials were calling in a specially trained Dawson County K-9 unit to help search for the other weapon.

Investigators with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation remained on scene all day long processing the scene.
