Victims of fatal Lumpkin Co. crash identified

DAHLONEGA - Two Albanian immigrants with ties to the Lumpkin County School System have been identified as the victims of Thursday night's fatal accident in Dahlonega.

Lumpkin County Coroner Larry Bannister said Mariana Spahija, a special education teacher at Lumpkin County High School, and Donika Bardho, the mother of a teacher at Lumpkin County Middle School, were both killed in the crash just before 8 p.m. on Shamans Way.

Officials with the Georgia State Patrol said the women's car left the roadway near Calhoun Road and struck two trees. They said alcohol was not a factor.

Their deaths follow the death of 14-year-old Lucas King, who was killed in a separate crash Wednesday.

Georgia State Patrol Trooper Mark Cox said King was driving a pick-up truck on Pink Williams Road just after 9 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. He was thrown from the vehicle and taken to Chestatee Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries. Cox said King was not wearing a seat belt.

His passenger, Daniel Fullerton, was wearing a seat belt, and received minor injuries.

Cox said that King's father knew the boys were in the truck.

"Pink Williams is just a narrow road," said Cox. "He [King's father] was allowing him...the two boys...to ride down to a creek to either fish or just walk the banks."

Cox said it is possible charges could be filed in connection with that accident.

King and Fullerton are both students in the Lumpkin County School System.
