Track: Vikings Mata, Wolves Moore bring home gold at Ga. Olympics

JEFFERSON -- East Hall's Kerry Mata brought home the only gold medal for Hall County athletes Saturday at the Georgia Games at the Jefferson Memorial Stadium.

Mata finished first in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a time of 39.080 beating Cameron Holt of Central, Carroll by nearly half a second. The Vikings finsihed tied for 17th in the team standings with 10 points, all coming on Mata's first place finish.

Buford's C.J. Moore held the Wolves finished 11th in the teams standings taking the gold in 100-meter dash and anchoring the 400-meter relay team to a second place finish.

Moore won the 100 by just 3/100ths of a second over Marquice Dye of Elbert County. Moore, along with Seon Jones, Michael Fortson, Ronald King, and Eric Barr finished 3/100ths of second behind the team from Appling County.

Buford finished 11th in Class AA with 18 points.

North Hall's Brandon Lawson finished seventh in the 800-meter run. The Trojans finished seventh in Class AAA with 24 points with Lawson and Cody Barger accounting for all of the points.
