Police: argument preceded Braselton murder

By The Associated Press
BRASELTON - Braselton police now say an argument between a 15-year-old girl who shot and killed her mother Wednesday night preceded the shooting and that a 17-year-old friend of the girl's has been arrested for having sex with her.

Karen Moore, 42, an Army recruiter, was found dead in her home Thursday by a neighbor, police said. They said Moore was working on her computer when she was shot in the back of the head.

Officers dispatched to the home were met by a neighbor and the daughter, assistant police chief Lou Solis said.

``The daughter told us she called the neighbor because she said her mom was not waking up, and the neighbor went over there to assist the daughter,'' Solis said.

Moore was found on a sofa with a gunshot wound to the back of the head, Solis said.

When the girl's father, who is also in the Army but stationed in Alabama, arrived at the home, he gave a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent consent to talk with his daughter, Solis said.

``This is when we learned that the mother and the daughter had an argument of some sort,'' Solis said.

He said police also interviewed Christopher Nieves, 17, and later charged him with having sex with a minor.

Solis said that the district attorney will make a decision on whether to charge the daughter as an adult. She was charged with murder and taken to a juvenile facility in Gwinnett County.
