UGA student attacked, suspect on the run

ATHENS - Athens-Clarke County police are on the lookout for a man who attacked a 22-year-old UGA student Monday morning as she walked to class.

Authorities said the woman was taking a shortcut through an apartment complex on South Milledge Avenue about 7:30 a.m. when the suspect ran toward her, knocked her to the ground and attempted to remove her clothing.

A man who lived in the area apparently heard the woman scream and when he saw what was happening, scared the suspect, who ran from the scene.

The student was shaken up, but not physically hurt, according to police.

The attacker is described as a light-skinned black male in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5'8" of medium build.

Police are encouraging students to walk in pairs or groups and to always be aware of their surroundings.
