By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
UNDATED - Many Georgians are preparing to go to the polls on Tuesday to vote in referendums and special elections... 14 of them in northeast Georgia.

SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) referendums are the most common thing on the ballot in the 76 places around the state when voting will be taking place. Most are for educational tax measures.

In our area, there are nine SPLOST votes... all but two of them for education... including ones in Banks, Forsyth, Franklin, Hall, Jackson, Pickens , and Rabun counties. "Miscellaneous" SPLOST votes are planned in Barrow and Towns counties.

There are also special elections in Gwinnett County, for county commission chairman; Habersham County, for probate judge; and, Bowman, in Elbert County, for city council.

A bond referendum is on the ballot in the City of Jefferson, while Ellijay voters will go to the polls for a liquor referendum.
