W.C. Officials Meet With Governor's Liaisons

By Dean Dyer / WRWH
(Cleveland)- Two liaisons from Governor Nathan Deals office were in Cleveland Wednesday  visiting with White County,  Cleveland and Helen elected officials.  Lindsay Perdue and Edens Davis  met with the  officials at Truett McConnell College, where the local officials shared information on what they are doing in the county and  each of the cities  and expressed how the governors office could help.

County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said they want quality growth in the county and the Cleveland Bypass is a key to that, he called on the governor's staff  to let him know they need help in getting the bypass started.  Turner said funding has been approved, "  but they're tell us it could be next summer before construction begins."   Turner said, it not just for White County but both commissioners in  Union and  Towns counties have expressed the urgent need to get the bypass completed.

Davis said,  they use these visits around the state to set up their contacts for future projects saying,  " in the future we are looking to  partnering with local officials here, and with economic development and those kind of things, the governors office can partner with local officials  and we can get Georgians  back to work that is what Governor Deal is all about."

Dr. Emir Caner, Truett McConnell College President welcomed the group to the campus  and provided a tour of the college's newly renovated  Miller Building, student dormitory and  expanded dining hall.  Caner said hosting this gathering is just one way they can express their thanks for the forward education thinking  by the governor.  Caner said, "the governor has really, in many ways, help save lots of   these students from having to drop out   or do things differently and it has been a tremendous blessing to Truett McConnell, to  White County, and it enables us to thrust forward.
