It's a boy!

GAINESVILLE - The first baby of 2011 born at Northeast Georgia Medical Center is a boy.

Mother/Baby Charge Nurse Denni Savage said Saturday afternoon that Alexander Christopher Zuniga arrived by scheduled C-section at 8:12 a.m., Gainesville's first born for 2011. He weighed-in at six pounds.

"It's always exciting to see who the first baby is especially when you have a part in it," Savage said.

The mother is Maria Zuniga of Gainesville and said her new son is in perfect health.

"He's beautiful," she said. "I will remember this day forever."

Dad Salvador Zuniga said Alexander is the couple's third son.Alexander's older brothers are ages 17 and 14.

Gainesville's first baby of 2011 also received several gifts, compliments of local and area merchants, including an infant feeding spoon, a case of diapers, a rocking chair a car seat and a $500 savings bond.
