Kennesaw State gets $3M for math, science teachers

KENNESAW - Kennesaw State University has gotten a nearly $3 million federal grant to increase the number of math and science teachers it produces.

The National Science Foundation grant will create a program that recruits professionals working in science and math careers to become teachers. The program also will offer leadership training to science teachers with at least three years' experience.

The suburban Atlanta university plans to start with 32 students in December. Each student will get up to $50,000 in scholarships in exchange for four years of work in a high-needs Georgia school.

And current teachers in Cobb, Paulding, Fulton, Gwinnett and Atlanta schools can get $10,000 annually for five years of professional development.
