Currahee CAP awards badge to NGTC campus

By Staff
TOCCOA - The Currahee Civil Air Patrol squadron recently presented North Georgia Technical College Currahee Campus Director Greg Roach with an honorary badge of service recognition.

Lt. Col. David Roberts, who has been with the organization for several years, started the Currahee Composite Squadron just one year ago. Already the membership has a total membership of 42 cadets and senior officers.

"We do a variety of projects and educational training from experimental aircraft flights to a series of emergency service training," explained Roberts. "Recently, the Currahee Campus opened up the computer lab so that 20 of our cadets could complete some of the online training."

Roberts, who is also a student at NGTC in the Business Administrative Technology program, added, "Many of our cadets are home schooled, and so exposure to a college campus is pretty cool for them."

When the time came to take the cadets through some computer-based training, Roberts approached the college about the possibility of computer lab time. "They were all so easy to work with, the squadron wanted to recognize them for their 'Can Do' attitude," he said.

The Currahee CAP cadets come from Habersham, Stephens, Madison, Franklin, and White Counties and range from 12 to 18 years in age. For more information on the program, visit www.curraheecando.org.
