Barrow County phone scam

By Staff
WINDER - Barrow County Emergency Services has issued a warning about an imposter soliciting donations from area citizens to pay for emergency services.

Lt. Scott Dakin said his department received a call from an upset citizen, who claimed someone posing as an emergency services employee called the citizen, asking for money. The money, said Dakin, was to be used to assist citizens that could not afford departmental services.

"We want citizens to know that we do not solicit donations by phone for anything this department is involved in," said Dakin. "We also want citizens to know that this department will never withhold any of our services from anyone, no matter what their financial state."

The telephone call originated from area code 205 in the Birmingham, Alabama area.

"If you receive any telephone calls by anyone that identifies themselves as a member of our department, and requesting donations, do not give them any donations. This money will not be going to this department," said Lt Dakin.

The department has turned over the information to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office.
