County-by-county election results for July 20

UNDATED - The following is a summary of election results from counties surrounding the Gainesville area. (See separate stories for Hall County results.)


BANKS COUNTY:

Incumbent Banks County Commissioner Rickey Cain was forced into a run-off with second place finisher Danny Maxwell for the District 1 post, while Sammy Reece defeated Keith Segars for the District 3 post on the commission. Michael Boyle and Shane Roberts won positions on the Banks County School Board.


BARROW COUNTY:

Isaiah Berry, the incumbent, defeated Frank D. Clark to return to his post on the Barrow County Commission. Billy E. Parks was also elected to the Barrow County Commission, while Ben Hendrix defeated Joe. H. Robinson for another commission seat.

Those elected to the school board in Barrow County were Randall Holland, Connie Wehunt, Will Dunn, Daniel H. Cromer, Mark Still and Rushia Cooper.


DAWSON COUNTY:

Of the ten candidates running for Clerk of Superior Court in Dawson County, Justin Power and Gaye Cantrell were the top vote getters. The two will face one another in a run-off on August 10.

Jimmy Hamby defeated challengers Lionel Graves and Bill Minor for a seat on the Dawson County Commission. Gary Pichon ran unopposed for the District 1 commission post. Will Wade and Cecil Bennett were elected to the Dawson County School Board.


FORSYTH COUNTY:

Forsyth County voters will find themselves back at the polls on August 10 to decide which candidate they want for their District 3 Commission seat. Incumbent Jim Harrell is in a run-off with Todd Levent. Republican Ralph J. "Pete" Amos won his Republican primary race over Brant R. Meadows and will face Democrat Mary F. Chatfield in November for the District 1 Commission seat.

Ann K. Crow was elected to the Forsyth County School Board, and Kristin Morrissey won her Republican primary election for another school board post and will face Democrat Camile Fareri in November.

GWINNETT COUNTY:

Run-off elections will have to be held for two posts on the Gwinnett County Commission. In District 2, with 100% of precincts reporting, Republicans Lynette Howard and Keith Shewbert will face off in three weeks. In District 4, with 100% of precincts reporting, John Heard and Tim Sullivan will face off on August 10. There is no Democrat opposition in either race.

Also, residents in Snellville have thrown their support behind Sunday alcohol sales at restaurants. Almost twice as many people in the Gwinnett County town approved the referendum. It opens the tap immediately for seven Snellville restaurants whose beer and wine licenses were voided by a judge in January.


HABERSHAM COUNTY:

At last report, Andrea Harper was leading former Cornelia Mayor Don Higgins for the District 2 County Commission post in Habersham County. As of 11:00 p.m., all precincts still had not reported. Chad Henderson ran unopposed for the District 4 post on the Habersham County Commission.

Uncontested races in Habersham County included three school board posts; incumbents Gilbert Barrett and Pat Taylor will be joined on the board by Rick Williams.


JACKSON COUNTY:

Steve Bryant defeated Randall Skelton to win the District 5 School Board seat.


LUMPKIN COUNTY:

There were no contested races in Lumpkin County for seats on the county commission; Clarence Stowers will return to his post, but Republican incumbent Clarence Grindle will face Democrat Frank Gilkeson in the November general election.


WHITE COUNTY:

Back to the polls on August 10 for run-offs in two county commission races. Republicans Terry Goodger and Jerry Nicholson will face off for the District 1 seat; the winner will face Democrat Bobby Adams in November. Republicans Chris Nonnemaker and Wesley Craig Bryant will face each other in a run-off in the District 4 race. Edwin Nix was the winner of the District 3 Commission race. Jimmy Lyndal Holcomb ran unopposed for the District 2 seat.

Also in White County, Amy Sims Crumley defeated incumbent LeMerle Adams Edwards for the District 2 School Board post. Barry Lee Vandiver had no opposition in the race for the District 4 School Board seat.
