Handel faces ethics charges

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The state Ethics Commission is investigating three complaints filed against former secretary of state Karen Handel alleging she repeatedly accepted campaign contributions exceeding the $6,100 limit for a single election.

Handel's campaign blamed accounting errors and said the extra money had been refunded or reallocated before they even received word of the complaints.

Eight separate complaints were filed by Christian Tejada of Atlanta. Officials at the ethics panel consolidated them into three.

Word of the complaints against the former secretary of state come on the same day her first television ad of the campaign hit the airwaves around Atlanta with an attack on the ``iffy ethics'' of her leading GOP opponents.
