Todd Redmond Pitchers No Hitter in G-Braves 4-0 Win

LOUISVILLE - RHP Todd Redmond pitches the first Braves Triple-A nine inning no hitter in 21 years as he pitched the Gwinnett Braves to a 4-0 win over the Louisville Bats in game two of the four game series at Louisville Slugger Field Saturday night. The last Braves Triple-A nine inning no-hitter was a combined effort between Richmond pitchers Charlie Puleo and Steve Ziem on June 27, 1989 when the Richmond Braves beat Oklahoma City 3-0. The last time a nine inning no-hitter was pitched by a single Braves Triple-A pitcher was on June 1, 1977 when Mickey Mahler of the Richmond Braves beat Toledo 7-0. Pete Smith pitched a seven inning perfect game for the Richmond Braves back on May 3, 1992 in beating Rochester 1-0. The Braves are now 21-26 with the win. The Bats drop to 22-26.

It Was Over When: Redmond took the mound. He allowed only two base runners. Both came in the sixth when he walked Corky Miller and Chris Burke.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Redmond finished the game with 9.0 IP, 0H, 0R/ER, 2BB, 3K. Redmond threw 105 pitches, 66 strikes.

At the plate: Mitch Jones went 2-for-4 with an RBI. The other Braves RBIs came from Luis Bolivar with an RBI single in the seventh that broke a scoreless tie, Wes Timmons with an RBI double in the seventh, and Barbaro Canizares with an RBI single in the seventh.

The Opposition:

On the Mound: Lefty Matt Maloney started and got the loss. Maloney went 7.2 IP with H, 2R/ER, 2BB, 3K. Jesus Delgado worked the final out of the eighth and finished with 0.1 IP and 3H, 2R/ER. Ben Jukich finished the game pitching the ninth, allowing no hits or runs.

At the plate: Chris Burke and Corky Miller were the only Bats to reach base as both walked in the 6th.

On Deck: The Braves and the Bats play game three of the four game series in Louisville Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. LHP Jose Ortegano (1-0, 2.31ERA) is scheduled to start for the Braves. Louisville will start RHP Matt Klinker who will be making his first Triple-A start of the year since being called up from Double-A.
