G-Braves start homestand with win

GWINNETT - The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3-0 on Friday night at Coolray Field. Starter Jo-Jo Reyes and shortstop Yunel Escobar chipped in on tonight's win as they were both on a MLB rehab assignment, helping Gwinnett end their three-game losing streak. This was Gwinnett's first shutout of the season. Gwinnett (16-18) now sits alone in second place in the International League South and 5 games behind Durham. Lehigh Valley (13-21) is tied for fifth place in the International League North and are 8 games behind Syracuse.

It Was Over When: A 3-run first inning by the G-Braves was highlighted by third baseman Wes Timmons' 2-RBI double. The combined pitching effort of Reyes, Tim Gustafson, and Michael Dunn held the IronPigs scoreless.

Braves Beat:
On the Mound: Reyes allowed only 1 hit while striking out 2 in 2.0 IP. Gustafson pitched 6 innings and allowed 4 hits. Michael Dunn notched his second save of the season with 2 K's in 1.0 IP.

At the plate: Escobar went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Timmons went 1-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI. Catcher Clint Sammons went 1-for-3 with a double.

The Opposition:
On the Mound: Starter Joe Savery (0-3) pitched 6 innings and allowed 3 R/ER on 4 hits while walking 5 G-Braves.

At the plate: Catcher Dane Sardinha went 1-for-3 with a double.

On Deck: Gwinnett faces off against Lehigh Valley in game two of a four-game series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field. G-Braves RHP Chris Resop (3-1, 2.27 ERA) is scheduled to face RHP Drew Carpenter (3-3, 3.72 ERA) of the IronPigs
