More National Guard members back home

By The Associated Press
FORT STEWART - About 200 soldiers from the Macon-based 48th Brigade Special Troops Battalion and the Forsyth-based 148th Brigade Support Battalion have returned from Afghanistan, with more due to come home soon.

The unit landed at Hunter Army Airfield at about 11 p.m. Monday and was ferried to Fort Stewart. The soldiers were officially welcomed home shortly after midnight in a brief ceremony at the base's parade field.

Col. Lee Durham, commander of the unit, will return home on Wednesday with several hundred more 48th Brigade troops. The remaining 48th Brigade soldiers are expected to be home by the end of the month.

Soldiers with the 48th began returning home from a year's deployment overseas last month. Units from Gainesville, Lawrenceville and Winder are already home.
