Board quiet on Chance's fate

ATLANTA - The Civil Service Board has made a decision on whether fired Forsyth Planning Director Jeff Chance should get his job back, but they aren't saying just what that decision is.

Jeff Chance was fired in August over some personal e-mail activity on his county account. Those e-mails between Chance and his girlfriend were said to be sexually explicit.

His attorney claimed during an eight-day hearing that the firing actually was politically motivated because Chance had clashed with a planning commissioner over a zoning issue. He has asked that his client be reinstated to his $92,000-per-year job with no punishment.

The three-member CSB panel apparently made a decision on Chance's fate in a December 7 meeting, but according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the decision is in the process of being written, so they won't release details just yet.
